WHEN TO CONSIDER OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?

Delayed milestones

Difficulty achieving developmental milestones, such as rolling (4-6 months), sitting (6-8 months), crawling (7-10 months), or walking (12-15 months) at the expected age.

Tummy time difficulty

Baby resists tummy time and strongly avoids it.

Asymmetrical movements

Baby favors one side of the body over another. For instance, your baby only rolls to one side, reaches for toys with only one hand, or crawls in an unusual manner.

Sensory processing challenges

Child over or underresponds to sound, texture, touch, or movement. Child may appear overly sensitive to touch, sight, sounds, smells, and/or different movements.

Fine motor skills challenges

Trouble holding a crayon, pencil, or feeding utensil, using scissors, writing letters/numbers, buttoning, zipping, or manipulating small items such as coins.

Self-regulation challenges

Difficulty regulating his or her emotions and interacting with others.

Coordination challenges

Child has trouble using both hands in a coordinated manner, appears clumsy, trips frequently, or struggles to move safely through their environment.

Executive functioning challenges

Difficulty paying attention, recalling information, problem solving, and following directions.
